Futures Literacy


Futures Literacy is the capability to anticipate, imagine, and prepare for diverse future scenarios. It empowers individuals to envision alternative futures by developing multiple, plausible scenarios to understand potential outcomes and challenges. It also enhances decision-making by using foresight to inform present actions, leading to more sustainable and resilient strategies. Furthermore, it helps individuals adapt to change by building resilience through preparation for various possibilities, reducing uncertainty and enhancing adaptability.

Workshop Components

Duration: 120 min

Digital tools suggested: 

  • Mentimeter: For interactive polls and icebreakers

  • Miro or Padlet: For collaborative brainstorming and scenario building. Also useful for icebreakers or energizers

  • Canva or Google Slides: For creating visual representations

  • Google forms: For collecting feedback and reflections

Workshop Overview

Annotation: 

This workshop is designed to cultivate Futures literacy among participants by engaging them in envisioning and strategizing for sustainable futures. Through interactive and collaborative activities, participants will explore various scenarios, develop strategic thinking skills, and identify actionable steps toward sustainability.


Objectives: 

  • Introduce the concept of Futures literacy

  • To develop participants' abilities to envision alternative sustainable futures and identify steps to achieve them through collaborative challenges

  • Develop the ability to envision alternative futures

  • To learn how to use different digital tools, such as Miro, Padlet, Mentimeter and others
